“We also examined other companies and their offers, but Atmoshaus immediately appealed to us, partly because Atmoshaus is a family business.”

Space for family life

The family, with two children, a dog, and a guinea pig, had barely any room left in their 75 m² apartment. So the parents began searching for an existing detached house that would meet all their needs. However, it quickly became clear that an existing property would be too expensive compared to the necessary renovations. Then, by chance, the family found a plot of land for sale in the municipality of Kaltbrunn, where the homeowner had grown up. The location was ideal. The family won the auction for the hillside plot and searched online for inspiration for a suitable house design.
The young family quickly found what they were looking for among our house designs on our website. They were immediately drawn to our family-run company, and the "Blickfang Plus" house design already offered an attractive template for their future home. The modern design fulfilled the family's most important architectural requirements: bright, spacious, and with large windows in the open-plan living area. The next step was to adapt the house design to the plot of land and the needs of the future residents. To this end, the basement was designed to project outwards to accommodate the double garage and a hobby room. This projection also creates a patio on the ground floor. The entrance to the house was moved to the basement level, at garage level. A space-saving, half-turn staircase on the north side leads from the entrance area to the ground floor, whose layout is optimally utilized thanks to this solution. Only the office and the guest toilet are designed as separate rooms. The remaining space is dedicated to the generous open-plan living and dining area, including the kitchen. The client's wish for a spacious floor plan with as few walls as possible was thus fulfilled. The large kitchen with a cooking island and breakfast bar was designed with champagne-colored fronts and a dark worktop, blending elegantly into the living space.
The family's private rooms are located on the top floor. The sloping ceiling created by the shed roof gives the rooms an airy feel, while white wood paneling adds a touch of coziness. The western wing contains a bathroom with a bathtub and shower. The family's two children share a bathroom with a shower. Easy-care ceramic tiles with a stone look lend the bathrooms a tranquil atmosphere. Their dark gray hue is echoed in the vanity. The original floor plan of the upper floor would have resulted in one of the children's rooms being significantly larger than the other. The family didn't want this, so a clever architectural solution was employed: the partition wall between the two rooms was placed diagonally, creating two roughly equal-sized, trapezoidal rooms. Generous glazing allows plenty of natural light to flood the rooms.
The homeowners considered choosing the flooring, which now graces all living spaces and the staircase, a particularly important task in planning their new home. It needed to match the light-colored kitchen cabinets, while also being as durable as possible for a household with two children. Ultimately, they opted for wenge parquet. The wood's dark, natural color creates an elegant atmosphere, while its exceptional hardness ensures it can withstand the wear and tear of playing children and their dog over the long term.
Planning the electrical system was also a time-consuming and expensive undertaking. The installations needed to be easily adaptable to all possible scenarios. Therefore, numerous connections for future uses were already included, such as for outdoor lighting, a hot tub in the garden, or a sauna in the basement.
The intensive planning phase has definitely paid off. The family is very happy with the result and wouldn't change a thing in retrospect – except perhaps make the garage a bit bigger so it could also accommodate bicycles. The room that currently serves as a bicycle storage area, the parents would like to transform into a wellness oasis someday. Otherwise, everything is exactly as they had envisioned it. The homeowners are also delighted with the location of their property: public transport, shops, and the school are all nearby. Furthermore, many other young families with children of similar ages live in this single-family home neighborhood. New buildings in the neighborhood don't worry the family at all: their plot boasts an unobstructed view. To enjoy this panoramic view, stretching all the way to the Glarus Alps, even more, the family had a wooden terrace built, rising above the slope at garden level. A wood and steel structure anchors the terrace to the hillside. This clever solution provided the homeowners with several square meters of outdoor space that would otherwise have been unusable due to the sloping terrain. Now the garden is also generously sized, where the family often enjoys spending time together, whether playing, eating, or simply relaxing. Thanks to the successfully completed "own home" project, the young family finally has the space to thrive.
