Project description

New building with character in the townscape

Every village has its own character. To preserve this, old buildings and farmsteads are sometimes listed by the municipalities as culturally significant objects worthy of protection.

Building in the immediate vicinity of such houses can present particular challenges, especially if the owners intend to demolish an existing building and construct a new one. The architecture of this new building incorporates typical rural elements. The windows have jambs cut at an angle into the masonry, and two of these facades are equipped with shutters. The roof overhang allows a view of the supporting beams of the gable roof. The garage, which is almost as long as the house, has a shed roof. With its open wall structure above the garage door, the extension is reminiscent of a farmhouse barn.

For the interior design of a new build, there are no set guidelines. A modern, open-plan living concept characterizes the ground floor. From the entrance hall, an axis opens towards the garden, making the heart of the house feel even more spacious. The kitchen, dining area, and living room flow seamlessly into one another and are flooded with natural light, both through the large patio doors and the two side windows. The light-colored kitchen cabinetry and parquet flooring create a harmonious atmosphere. A modern seating area in the living room offers space for cozy gatherings. In the summer months, the family can open the access to the terrace and use the garden as an additional living space. To allow for a generous floor plan, a basement was omitted.
The utility room, a storage room, and a guest WC are located on the ground floor. On the upper floor, a landing opens up after the staircase, providing access to the four fully finished bedrooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that the parents and two children have plenty of natural light in their private rooms. The bathroom is centrally located and features large-format wall and floor tiles in a modern style.
We were privileged to accompany the family step by step throughout their building project. With the house design and high-quality materials, the family has created a home that blends harmoniously into the village.
