Insights into the project

Project description

Space for a young family

In the canton of Zurich, this client found the perfect building plot for their needs. They were particularly drawn to the rural setting and the proximity to schools and public transportation, allowing them to reach Zurich's main train station in less than 30 minutes. "It had always been a dream of ours to build our own house. After the birth of our first child, we finally decided to do it," the clients explained.

The modern architecture, with its extensive use of glass, offers unobstructed views of the surrounding landscape. This makes it ideal for the sloping plot into which the two-story, fully-basemented house with its pitched roof is nestled. The double garage is located at basement level and provides ample storage space. An attractive outdoor seating area has been created on the garage roof. The permanently installed pergola not only provides shade but also creates an architectural transition to the ground floor.

While residents typically access the house from the garage via a basement staircase, the official entrance is located on the opposite side. The entryway offers storage space as well as access to the shower room and an adjacent room that can be used as an office or guest room. On the ground floor, the staircase acts as a room divider without disrupting the open-plan feel of the modern kitchen, the dining area in front of it, and the living room opposite. The 2.80-meter ceiling height contributes to the exceptional sense of space. Large windows also create a feeling of spaciousness and offer views of the outdoors, where young trees adorn the terrace and the surrounding garden. The house's south-facing orientation allows plenty of natural light to flood the upper floor. The rooms and hallway extend all the way to the roof ridge. Floor-to-ceiling corner windows make the master bedroom feel spacious. From here, the parents have direct access to the bathroom, which is separated by a sliding door. To ensure that the bathroom, with its shower and bathtub, is also accessible from the two equally sized children's bedrooms, there is another door leading from the bathroom to the bright hallway. The family has made their home comfortable with high-quality materials and beautiful decorations.
