Insights into the project

Project description

The house was to be bathed in sunlight all day long and convey a feeling of freedom. These criteria were of utmost importance to the homeowners. The family, who have lived in Unterkulm in the canton of Aargau since 2009, became aware of our company through a flyer in their mailbox. According to the homeowners, a visit to a model home in a neighboring municipality led to a positive first contact with the company. "The chemistry was right, so we didn't contact any other construction companies," says the homeowner. After two further meetings, the building plans for the plot of land, which the couple had recently discovered by chance during a Sunday stroll, were finalized. They planned to use their upcoming summer vacation as time to consider their options. No sooner had the couple returned from their holiday than construction began, and they were able to take possession of the keys in April 2017.

To ensure their home felt "open and flooded with light," the homeowners made individual adjustments to the Blickfang . For the stair railing and gallery balustrade, they opted for transparent glass instead of brickwork. "The floor-to-ceiling windows are standard; we really liked them in the model home," says the homeowner.
All the rooms on the upper floor lead to the bright hallway. Besides the master bedroom and two children's bedrooms, there's a generously sized bathroom with stone slab flooring. The dark floor color immediately creates a relaxing atmosphere upon entering. "We decided against a bathtub because it would have felt too cramped," explains the homeowner. The couple also increased the ceiling height on the upper floor by one brick, "so we wouldn't feel like the ceiling was coming down on us," adds the husband. Thanks to the white paneling, the opposite is true. The light-colored ceiling visually expands the room upwards.

The kitchen window on the ground floor was also widened to almost span the entire wall, maximizing natural light. The gleaming white kitchen contrasts with the cherry wood flooring in the living area. The orange hue of the wood creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. The homeowner raves that this is exactly what she's always wanted. To ensure the upper floor remains comfortable and cozy, the owners ultimately moved the entrance to the basement level, right next to the garage. "This gives us more space when we come home," says the homeowner. The facade of the ground floor is particularly striking. "Clinker brick," explains the couple, originally from northern Germany, "we've brought a piece of home to Switzerland."

The owners are completely satisfied with their 5.5-room house as it is today. "It's not too big, but not too small either. We love living here," says the wife. Looking back, they wouldn't change a thing. During the excavation, the homeowners had a challenging experience. The soil conditions unfortunately turned out to be unfavorable – a rock was unearthed. "Such surprises can happen with any construction project," says the father. "My advice to every prospective homeowner is to budget for such unforeseen events." They would also recommend building with a general contractor. "You're supported by professionals. That helps with the many decisions that inevitably arise when building a house," says the husband. Otherwise, the couple is completely happy: "We're happy here and have found our dream home."
