House on a slope with a hipped roof
Retirement was drawing near, bringing with it the prospect of spending more time golfing. This gave the clients the idea of settling down near their beloved golf course. After years of renting, they had specific requirements for a building plot: no through traffic, a good view, and easy access to Zurich.
They found the perfect plot near Oberkirch (LU). The couple initially liked our "Blickfang" house design. However, a flat roof was out of the question due to building regulations. Our architects worked with them to develop a new solution. The result was a bungalow-style house with a hipped roof, suitable for two people but also accommodating a small family. Because of the sloping terrain, all the main rooms are located on the upper level of the house. The kitchen, dining area, and living room cleverly extend up to the white-painted hipped roof, creating a modern living environment. Two pillars supporting the roof emphasize the spacious feel, and three window fronts flood the interior with natural light. A practical storage room is located directly next to the kitchen and offers ample storage space. The staircase to the basement spatially separates the living area from the private quarters. Both bedrooms have direct access to the garden. A spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower and a dressing room belong to this part of the house, which is set back slightly. This leaves enough space on the sloping plot for a patio, sheltered behind shrubs. Landscaping the garden on the slope proved somewhat challenging, but the use of low-growing plants creates a pleasing overall effect. The lower level is at street level and has a wide garage entrance directly next to the front door. Utility rooms, another bedroom, and a small bathroom with shower and toilet provide additional space.
The homeowners have not regretted their decision to start over in a different location. All their wishes were fulfilled during the construction of their new home, and the building schedule was met. They even received assistance in finding a suitable bank. Now the two residents enjoy the peace and quiet of their new home, and when the weather is nice, the golf course is just a short distance away.
