Project description

Living close to nature – turning a hillside location into a strength

With the decision to marry and start a family, the clients' desire for their own home grew: a place to arrive, with a garden, proximity to nature, and a family-friendly environment. At the same time, good transport links were essential, as Baden remained their home city and professional mobility was important.

When the listing for the plot of land in Ehrendingen came up, everything moved quickly. What at first glance seemed hardly buildable turned out to be a great opportunity thanks to the architecture of atmoshaus . Since none of the house designs from their catalog fit the plot, a completely custom-designed single-family home was created. The unique characteristics of the site were strategically utilized and now define the architecture with its varied angles – a truly distinctive feature both inside and out.

The heart of the house is the open-plan living and dining area. This is where family life unfolds, especially with young children. The generous ceiling height, abundant natural light, and unobstructed views of the adjacent forest edge create an atmosphere of peace and spaciousness. Thanks to the elevated position, nature feels like an extension of the living space.

Architecture and design in dialogue from the inside out

Even the details make this house special: The slightly elevated entrance area, with its direct view of the staircase and glass balustrade, conveys a modern, bright feeling of space right from the moment you arrive. Three steps lead down to the living area – not originally planned, but now one of the owners' favorite features. The overall design is complemented by practical solutions such as a spacious basement with additional storage, a central vacuum system, and three bathrooms that offer noticeable comfort in everyday life.

A carefully considered lighting concept, developed in collaboration with a lighting designer, ensures harmonious illumination even in the upper rooms and accentuates the architectural qualities of the house. Two garden seating areas extend the living space outdoors: one elevated at the edge of the forest with a view of the greenery, the other directly adjacent to the kitchen – ideal for relaxed al fresco dining.

Looking back, the clients describe the construction process as intensive but very enriching. The flexibility, openness to ideas, and collaborative development of solutions made the project more than just building a house. The result is a home that suits the family, their daily life, and its surroundings – individually planned and implemented with great care and attention to detail.

Feedback from F. & S., Bottenwil

“When we first saw the plot of land, we thought it would be nearly impossible to build a house here. Today, we are incredibly happy with our decision. The open-plan living area with its view of the forest is the heart of our family life – a home that perfectly suits us and the property.”
