The W. family had long dreamed of owning their own home, which would also house the owner's practice. In Giswil on Lake Sarnen, the couple found the perfect plot of land and, in collaboration with us as their general contractor, built their dream home.
The young family previously lived in an apartment right on Lake Sarnen. They didn't want to give up the proximity to the lake at their new home. However, finding building land in Obwalden is generally difficult; building land around Lake Sarnen is a rarity. Buying an existing single-family home would certainly have been an option, but the architecture-minded client had also completed training as a CAD draftsman, and he was eager to apply his expertise to his own project. After a long and intensive search, the couple came across a plot of land advertised in Giswil. Because of its lake access via the canal running directly alongside the garden and the possibility of building a house with a flat roof, this plot perfectly matched their requirements. To realize their vision, the couple found a trusted partner in us.
“Friends of ours had already Atmoshaus built,” the young client told us. But that wasn’t the only reason they chose to build with us; they were also impressed by our building style and the fixed-price guarantee.
Due to the unique site conditions with its immediate proximity to the water, the basement is not underground but directly above ground. This means all four floors are visible, making the house appear taller. Even from the outside, it's clear that the house is divided into different areas. While the main entrance, garage, hobby room, and cellar form the ground floor, the practice, with its separate entrance, appears as an extension to the main house with an attic level.
The living area, comprising a kitchen, dining area, and terrace with an external staircase leading to the garden, is located on the third floor. The master bedroom with en-suite bathroom, a guest WC, and their daughter's room complete the layout on this level. Rustic parquet flooring extends throughout the kitchen and the remaining living spaces, creating a cozy atmosphere, while a painted wall in the dining room adds a splash of color. From here, the family and their guests enjoy beautiful views of the lake and the surrounding countryside.
The homeowner strategically placed the windows in his designs to offer beautiful panoramic views while maintaining privacy. The view is even more stunning from the top floor, where the living room features a fireplace and a television that folds down from the ceiling. Floor-to-ceiling French doors extend the living room out onto the large, almost wraparound terrace. The second floor, or ground floor, comprises two large bedrooms, a spacious bathroom with a walk-in shower, and two additional rooms. "Currently, we use these two rooms as a guest room and an office. Our daughter still sleeps in the small room upstairs next to the kitchen, which is intended to be used as an office," the homeowner explains, describing the spatial concept.
The couple has fond memories of the planning and construction phase, as everything was completed to their complete satisfaction and on schedule by us as the general contractor.
The couple was also satisfied with the craftsmen, appreciating their punctuality and careful work.
“We enjoy our house, the peace and quiet here in the neighborhood, and the proximity to the lake and the mountains. What’s more, it’s not far at all if we want to go to the city,” the homeowner enthuses, and you can see the joy on her face as she stands on the terrace and her gaze wanders contentedly into the distance.
